Natural Treatment For Baby’s Eczema

Natural Treatment For Baby’s Eczema

This treatment is a natural alternative and helps promote healing for your baby’s eczema. All you need is a tablespoon of baking soda and your baby bath filled with warm water. Make sure you stir the bath water to allow the baking soda to dissolve before putting baby in.

Bathe your baby for the usual amount of time, as long as this is under 20 minutes, and then rinse them off with clean water to remove any build up of baking soda on the skin.

It is rare for baking soda to cause a reaction, but it is always worth checking. Before putting baby in the bicarb bath, carry out a patch test on baby's skin to check that there is no adverse reaction to baking soda. To do this, mix up a concentration as described above, and then apply some to a small area of irritated skin. If the irritation does not worsen or itch within ten minutes, they shouldn't have any problems once submerged in the bath.

Science Notes

Eczema is a non-infectious skin condition that is quite common. Eczema makes your skin red, dry and itchy and in serious cases may bleed or crust over. It is not uncommon for the condition to heal or flare up again for no apparent reason. Those with eczema may suffer discomfort and pain.

Eczema can be hereditary or caused by external factors, such as heat or an allergic reaction.  Diet, hygiene and body products can also influence eczema.
