How to Recycle Cookware - Metal

There are many many options for recycling and repurposing cookware, however, cookware can last several lifetimes if looked after properly.

If no longer usable, steel, copper and aluminium products can be placed in your household recycling bin.

IT IS MORE USEFUL TO THINK REPURPOSING WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING AT OLD COOKWARE. ALL THE DIFFERENT SHAPES AND SIZES ARE EXCELLENT FOR CRAFTS AND DIY CONTAINERS OR SOLUTIONS.

Always consider your local op shop as there are many people who love older cookware and of course others who simply need a hand. You can also turn your muffin trays into containers for small objects, colanders into lamp shades and old cooking pots make fantastic pots for plants.

Old saucepans and kettles make the most fabulous outdoor pots.

If your repurposed pot is going outside, don’t stress about rust. Steel will slowly rust over time, giving your pot plant holder a beautiful natural look!  alternatively, paint them bright colours if you don't want to simply leave them to rust.

Science Notes
Aluminium and steel are endlessly 100% recyclable in their current state and can be recycled time and time again.

If they end up in landfill however, aluminium can take more than 400 years to break down.

If you are a DIY kind of person or you have young children, think about using pots, colanders and muffin tins for dying fabrics, mixing glues, making soaps and all those things you are better to keep away from the utensils you use for cooking food.
